Linux is the number one “Open Source” operating system. That means anyone with the necessary technical skiils is free to modify or redistribute it. This compares to operating systems like Windows and the MacOS that are ‘closed source’ – only the copyright owners and their licensees may use or distribute those systems. Debian is one of the variants of Linux. Why use Debian in the creation of a totally secure laptop?

Why use Debian?

Since people are modifying Linux all the time, there are lots of versions of Linux around. But Debian has gained a lot of ground as one of the most secure Linux variants. Due to ongoing reviews of the Open Source code for Debian it has a reputation for security. Debian is the operating system of choice for our totally secure laptop. Here are the top three reasons why we chose Debian:

Why use Debian? Debian has an appealing graphical user interface. It’s similar to what you will be used to already, whether you are a Windows or a Mac user. It’s particularly similar to graphical systems available on Windows and Macintosh computers. It has many of the same capabilities as Windows too.
Why use Debian? Of all the Linux distributions, Debian is the most secure. It has particular security features that make it one of the most reliable operating systems. Like the other Linux platforms, Debian uses a different source code. Because of this different code, it is difficult and unattractive to write viruses and malware for Debian. Debian is not susceptible to common viruses. Basically, if someone wanted to write a virus to hack into your machine, they would have not only to write a special program for your machine, but they would have to make you run it. Because of its open source nature, there are no known back doors and security vulnerabilities in Debian.
Why use Debian? Part of the nature of Linux, as an Open Source operating system, is that users can easily modify the source code. If done accidentally, on most Linux systems, this could cause irreparable damage. Debian , however, has a secure system recovery feature. If the user accidentally causes harm to his or her computer, our support technicians can easily reverse the previous operation and recover their files.
